Topping the list of exporters is China with a total of 7.4 billion pairs of shoes exported in 2020. After Vietnam, Indonesia ranks third, with 366 million pairs of shoes exported, accounting for 3% ( from 1.6% a decade ago) share of the global shoe export market, followed by Germany with 2.5% and Turkey with 2.3%.

Germany has overtaken Belgium and Italy to become Europe’s largest shoe exporter over the past 10 years.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted international value chains, leading to a reduction in the share of export production from 62% to 59%. In total, about 12.1 billion pairs were exported worldwide in 2020.
